Vern's Profile

I think we’re pretty lucky to live on our street. “A highly sought after location” was how the estate agent put it! Anyhow, we could only really afford our place because it was such a wreck, a real doer-upper! Luckily I’m pretty handy when it comes to a bit of DIY, saved us a fortune. I even managed to plumb in the new bathroom, which I’m really proud of. I never seem to get the time for things like that nowadays though, not that I’m complaining! Work’s frantic so I’m shattered by the time I get in.

Anyhow, Pam likes to think that the house is her domain now, but it was me that got the lowdown on those energy efficient windows they’ve got across the road. I checked them out on the internet. I learned loads about optimal energy ratings, free solar heat gain, thermal insulation and a whole bunch of other cool stuff, but maybe it’s a boy thing?!

When I’m not getting all techy on the web, I like to unwind with my guitar or in front of the rugby or F1 (I’ve even got Sam into that one, not sure if Fern quite approves). We also try to arrange one of those paintballing or motor sport weekends a couple times a year – just for the boys though, you know!

Then there’s the motorbike of course, or rather the dream of the motorbike. Pam’s not keen, she thinks I’m too old for all that now, or maybe she thinks I’m having my “mid-life crisis”?! Anyway, she’s reluctantly agreed I can get one for my 50th when the kids are older, so that’s something. Maybe if I agree to take a look at these energy efficient windows she’ll relent a bit. Worth a shot!

Wish me luck!
Vern
